Our Story

Our History

In 2002 Bakers was founded when Paul Baker, Managing Director, made the bold decision to buy a trade waste vehicle, a set of bins and do it on his own wheels. Today, we remain a family-run business with Paul at the helm and many family members taking up a number of roles.

Glen Parva

In 2008 we grew to the point of needing to find a bigger home, and Glen Parva became just that. Housing a variety of staff members from professional HGV drivers to office staff, and home to our first Materials Recycling Facility.

Acquired Glenfield Skip Hire & RoRo Business

In seven years we grew our trade collections services far beyond our expectations, enabling us to source new means of growth. In 2009 this came in the form of an acquisition, adding both Skip Hire and RoRo Hire to our customer offering.

Development of Granite Close

In 2011 we moved again to larger site at Granite Close, Enderby, housing our head offices and variety of recycling processes including a picking line. Today, Granite Close remains at the heart of our business; our largest materials recycling facility and with further plans for expansion in the pipeline!

Acquired Baileys Skip Hire in Northampton

In 2012 we not only expanded our skip hire business significantly, but also acquired a materials recycling facility in Northampton, expanding our regional offering on our own two wheels into areas such as Northampton and Milton Keynes.

Acquired Berridge Waste Paper

In 2016 the acquisition of Berridge Waste Paper saw the business take on over 100 years of experience in cardboard and paper recycling, many of Berridge Waste Paper’s members of staff made the switch to Bakers and are on their way to completing 50 years as part of the team. Now known as our Desford Recycling Facilities, this site is home to recycling processes such as baling and plastic granulation.

Moved into our Head Office

In 2016 we moved into our head office, but this was a long time coming. For over a year our maintenance manager, Malcom Page and current MRF Operations Manager, Kev King, completely redeveloped the interior of the building. Today, we have a dedicated transport workshop for vehicle maintenance and a wide variety of staff members ranging from customer service, sales, marketing, finance to operations and mechanics. We even house our sister company, Driving Talent, in the same building.

Rebranded to Bakers Environmental Solutions

In 2022 we officially rebranded, disposing of the word “waste” and all its associated with as a demonstration of the internal change of mindset. Read the full launch story here.
